The back of this card is hardly legible, but postmarked sometime in 1921, and has a 1 cent stamp on it. It was addressed to a Mrs. Nellie Wolf in Findlay, Ohio, and partially reads:
I got your cards all OK. I just got to this big town today. This is Friday afternoon.
We are not sure when this hotel was built, but in 1916 it was known as the Davis Hotel. By 1921 it was known as the Eagle Hotel, and before 1928 it was gone. The Hoxie & Walnut Ridge Streetcar tracks are visible in front of the Hotel. The building to the right of this was also marked as a hotel on the 1913 and 1916 maps, but by 1928 was an empty lot.
Budgie Little’s Service Station
In 1928 the Eagle Hotel had been completely razed and replaced by a new Gas Station, with a Hotel on the 2nd Floor. This Gas Station was purchased by Budgie Little’s father in 1945, and Budgie took over in August of 1955, and still runs the Gas Station today. He claims it is the oldest filling station in Lawrence County and possibly in the state of Arkansas.
