First Paving of the Rock n’ Roll Hwy 67
The Newell Construction Company has established a camp at the lower end of Hoxie for their construction crews and work has started on the dump for the new Alicia-Hoxie road. The workers are living in tents and some of the houses nearby have been rented.
Work was started Tuesday and is to be completed in 120 working days. The contract is for approximately $125,000 for grading and drainage structures. The length of the road is 13 miles and parallels the Missouri Pacific railroad, running next to the right of way on the west side.
This is an entirely new road and will be concreted next spring after the dump has been thrown up and allowed to settle next winter.
